Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to (advanced) English grammar with special emphasis on its syntactic structure. It essentially lays out the most important and central grammatical categories (i.e. lexical categories e.g. nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc.) and constructions (e.g. subordination and coordination) in English, certainly by extracting grammatical/syntactic patterns and rules that will be applicable cross-linguistically.

 

Course Goals:

Upon completion of the course, students are able to:

  1. recognize fundamental rules/concepts of lexical categories and sentence structures; and
  2. conduct a syntactic analysis to a variety of phrases and sentence types.
